Australian Sterling Butter Knife, Wendt, Adelaide, 1880s

A rare find!  This is a lovely piece of Australian silver history.  Wendt was arguably the most prolific silversmith in Australia at the end of the nineteenth century, with two shops in Adelaide and one in Broken Hill.
The butter knife measure approximately 17.5cm long.  There is a slight crack on the underside where the stem meets the blade, it seems to come from the engraving on the front side.
