Early sterling wine label, Sandy DRINKWATER, London, 1750s

Known as the father of wine labels, Sandy Drinkwater (what a name!) was working in London from 1735 onwards. From the shape of the Lion Passant, I would date this label to the late 1750s. In the classic plain Escatcheon shape, this one is for 'White Wine'. It is clearly hallmarked on the back and is in great condition (apart from the chain being broken).
