A rare and important 19th century Australian sterling silver mug with loop handle and gilt interior. Marked on base and foot rim by Henry Steiner, Adelaide circa 1885.
It measures 15cm high and weighs approximately 400 grams.
The inscription relates to a prize won by J H Angas in 1885. The Hon John Howard Angas JP (1823-1904) restored the fortunes of the estate and built a grand house at Collingrove, near Adelaide (now owned by the National Trust of Australia). With this wealth, he became a great benefactor and philanthropist.
