Pair of Georgian Salts, Nathaniel Appleton and Ann Smith, London, 1775

An elegant pair of salts. These are more interesting because they are made by a partnership including a woman. Nathaniel Appleton and Ann Smith registered their mark in 1771. A number of their salts are in the National Gallery of Victoria's collection (see http://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/explore/collection/artist/26311/). They have a lovely pie crust style on their rim, a nice difference to most of the plainer salts of the period. They are in good condition, apart from the marks being a little rubbed and one leg has been slightly pushed in on one of them. They measure approx 6cm across and 4cm high and weigh a combined 98 grams.
A nice addition to any collections.
