Rare Irish Provincial Snuff Box, John HILLERY, Cork, c.1770

A typical provincial piece. Made from Cowrie shell and silver, these snuff boxes are found made by both Irish and Scottish provincial silversmiths. This one is marked for Cork maker John Hillery around 1770. The inside is quite stained, it could do with a professional clean if that worries you. It has a later inscription 'WF Heath, Birmingham, 9th July 1849'. There is a small crack, but this appears to been an old one that is secure. It measures just under 7cm long.
