This sizeable silver basting spoon was made in the Cape by Daniel Beets. Although he was working until the late 1820s, I would date this to early in his career. The decoration is a little worn, but there are still traces of the original pricked border. These is also some bowl wear (and a few scratches where I think it was cleaned too heavily). But overall still a nice piece for the collector of South African or Colonial silver.
It measures just over 30cms long.
