A sweet little piece of colonial silver. This sterling box was made by Henry Newman in the 1890s. Quite rare, as most of these would have been made in England.
It has a nice inscription "To Mother, From James. Melbourne Nov 98"
Clearly stamped on the inside lid "St.Silver" and "NEWMAN"
It is in good overall condition, it does have a small split to one corner.
(For a bit more info on Henry Newman check out our blog post - http://silverspoonantiques.blogspot.com/2021/07/melbourne-jewellers-and-silversmiths.html )
It measures 5cm long, by 3.5 cm wide, 1.5cm deep and weighs 34 grams.
