A good piece of English provincial hollowware, this two handled loving cup was made by Isaac Cookson in Newcastle in 1746. His large workshop employed many apprentices including John Langlands and John Goodrick who acquired the business in 1755. Cookson died in 1757. The cup has a nice period marriage engraving on one handle of C over W*E. In good overall condition for its age, there appears to be an old repair to one handle.
Clearly hallmarked to base and maker's mark on one handle.
It measures 12cm high and weighs 290 grams.
