In the early nineteenth century Ireland, a fashion in silver flatware was the have a rat-tail on the bowl of fiddle pattern pieces. This appears to be peculiar to Ireland at the time, harking back to the rat-tails found on spoons of over 100 years earlier. This example is a scarce basting/serving spoon made by Philip Weekes in Dublin in 1833. It is good overall condition no sign of erasures.
Clearly hallmarked.
It measures 31.5cm long and weighs 143 grams.
