The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, these tongs were made a couple of decades later by Nathanial Smith and Co in Sheffield in 1801. They have a unique provincial bright-cut leaf decoration. They are in good condition with a period monogram on the end.
Clearly hallmarked.
They measure 14.5cm long and weigh 31 grams.
