A good piece of South Australian history, this medal was by well known silversmith Henry Steiner (who closed his business the following year in 1884). It is engraved for for Mrs Martins School, 1st Class 1883. It is monogrammed 'AMI' or 'AMT'.
Miss Martin's School was a prominent private institution founded in Adelaide during the 1870s by progressive educator Annie Montgomerie Martin. The pioneering academy provided rigorous higher education for young women, producing some of South Australia's first female university graduates and leaders of the women's suffrage movement. While she was away for 1883-1884 it seems to have traded as Mrs Martins School according to advertisements in the papers.
It is stamped 'H.STEINER' and pseudo hallmarks.
It weighs 27 grams.
